Scaling & Root Planing
If we notice that you’re exhibiting moderate or more severe symptoms of gum disease, we may suggest scaling and root planing. This is a two-step process that reduces the presence of harmful oral bacteria in your mouth by cleaning both around and below your gum line. Afterward, we will smooth out the surface of your roots to allow your gums to healthily reattach and provide them with protection.
Antibiotic Therapy
Arestin consists of tiny particles that contain an antibiotic that slowly releases over time. Unlike traditional antibiotic therapy, we’ll apply this locally, directly into the pockets of the gums. It’s a fine powder that can kill harmful oral bacteria and has been proven to be even more effective when paired with scaling and root planing. Depending on the severity of your gum disease symptoms, you may need to come in for a follow-up visit and reapplication.
